
(Patria) - The 49th Berlin Marathon was held in Berlin today, with 47,912 runners from 156 countries participating.
In the men's competition, Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge achieved a record fifth victory in Berlin with a time of 2:02.42.
His compatriot Vincent Kipkemoi crossed the finish line 31 seconds behind, while Tadese Tekele of Ethiopia finished with a time of 2:03.24.
Ethiopian athlete Tigist Assefa won the Berlin Marathon today and set a new world record in the marathon.
Assefa won with a time of two hours, 11 minutes and 53 seconds.
This is the 13th world record set at the Berlin Marathon.
The previous record holder was Kenyan Brigid Kosgei, who ran the course at the 2019 Chicago Marathon in 2:14.04 hours.
Second place went to Kenyan Sheila Chepkirui with a time of 2:17.49 hours, and third was Magdalena Shauri of Tanzania with 2:18.41.
