Mušija: Jusuf Duraković can no longer be rector, UNZE Senate must appoint acting rector

(Patria) - The Cantonal Court in Zenica, in an administrative dispute initiated by the Public Institution University of Zenica against the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton (MONKS ZDK), on August 14 this year, issued a decision declaring the lawsuit against that ministry in the administrative matter of inspection supervision as unfounded.

The inspection of the mentioned ministry, on November 4 last year, due to the illegal participation of the UNZE vice-rector in the voting process, challenged the decision of the UNZE Senate from the election session held on September 30, 2024, at which the then-current rector, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Duraković, received a second term.

Duraković, however, filed a lawsuit on June 23 this year, challenging the legality and regularity of the decision of the cantonal inspector of MONKS ZDK and requested a court ruling to annul the said decision, but the court did not grant that request.

- After the verdict that arrived yesterday, which I do not wish to comment on specifically, as a court proceeding is ahead of us, for which we plan to engage a law firm, it is clear that Prof. Dr. Jusuf Duraković can no longer be the rector. The UNZE Senate must fulfill its obligation and appoint an acting rector. Let them appoint whomever they want, but it is clear that it cannot be Duraković - stated the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of ZDK, Mirza Mušija, for Fena.

Mušija notes that Duraković, who was supposed to start his second term on July 11 this year, was dismissed by the UNZE Management Board, chaired by Prof. Dr. Suvad Isaković, on June 2 this year, but that the UNZE Senate did not respect the decision, so they did not appoint an acting rector, and subsequently announced a new competition for the UNZE rector.

Thus, Duraković, despite being elected for a second term at the Senate session last year, currently does not have a signed employment contract for his second rectorate term, for which, even after dismissal by the UNZE Management Board, he appointed vice-rectors.
