(Patria) - Police officers of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton will, from today, December 15, until January 15, 2026, implement enhanced security measures and controls in the area of Sarajevo Canton, where a large number of visitors, both from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, is expected due to the upcoming holidays.
Special emphasis will be placed on controlling the distribution and use of pyrotechnic devices, in cooperation with the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs.
"We remind that the Law on Misdemeanors against Public Order and Peace prescribes a fine ranging from 300 to 900 BAM for a misdemeanor committed by a person who possesses, ignites, transfers, sells, buys, or offers firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in a public place without the approval of the competent authority. If children or minors do this, their parents or guardians may be fined from 400 to 1,200 BAM," the statement reads.
However, as they add, the most important message is that pyrotechnics are dangerous. The use of pyrotechnics, especially among children and young people, can lead to serious injuries that may result in permanent disability.
"We should not forget that the use of pyrotechnics endangers the health of those who do not use them—our most vulnerable fellow citizens, the elderly, the sick, babies, and persons with developmental disabilities. The extremely harmful consequences for the health and well-being of animals have also been proven. We appeal to all our fellow citizens and guests who will be staying during the New Year holidays in Sarajevo Canton not to use pyrotechnics, and especially not to allow children to use pyrotechnic devices," the statement adds.
