Citizens of Srebrenica drank „coffee of tolerance“ on Tuesday, together with representatives of the OSCE office in Srebrenica, as well as representatives of governmental and non-governmental institutions, which should contribute to reconciliation among citizens in the town in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina where, 19 years ago, one of the greatest genocides after World War II was committed, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).
Members of the Army of Republika Srpska, together with the police, killed more than 10,000 Bosniak civilians in Srebrenica in just a few days in July 1995, among whom were a large number of children, women, and the elderly.
Almost two decades after the genocide, the situation among the citizens of Srebrenica is not at a satisfactory level, and tensions are largely contributed to by the authorities of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska, who do very little to ensure a peaceful life in this place, primarily for Bosniak returnees, writes Patria.
„Coffee of tolerance“ in Srebrenica has already been served once this year, and the project is organized by the Coalition "Revolt Against Hatred", supported by many other domestic and international organizations, including the OSCE.
Our wish, said Radomirka Savić from the Coalition "Revolt Against Hatred", is to show Srebrenica outside the framework by which it is known to the wider public, and to show how in Srebrenica, regardless of religion or nationality, people drink coffee together, socialize, live, and work, writes Patria.
