
(Patria) - Borsa judoka and senior national team member Domagoj Marić (26) shone at the Balkan Championships, becoming vice-champion in the under-100 kg category.
The Balkan Championships feature members of the Balkan Judo Association, which includes the national teams of Turkey, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Albania, Moldova, Cyprus, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Balkan Senior Championships for men and women were held in Peja, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by 7 national team members: 3 senior men and 4 senior women.
Domagoj Marić defeated representatives of Turkey (Mikail Zaloglu) and Greece (Emeon Georgiadis) in the bouts leading to the final, while in the final match of the championship he was defeated by Kosovo's representative Shpati Zekaj, BHRT reports.
Marić holds a master's degree in kinesiology, is a long-time national team member of Bosnia and Herzegovina in judo, and a coach of junior categories at Borsa.
This is the 4th medal for Borsa from this level of competition in the current year. Previously, in 2023, medals from the Balkan Championships were also won by Korina Džidić (gold), Mario Novak (bronze) and Ina Marić (silver), the Judo Club Borsa announced.
