(Patria) - Bilateral relations between Russia and Iran are based on a solid foundation of friendship, so no one can drive a wedge between Moscow and Tehran, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said in an interview with TASS.
"As a sovereign nation, Iran has the right to conduct its foreign policy as it wishes. We, for our part, assume that relations between Russia and Iran have a solid foundation of friendship and neighborliness and are not subject to external influence, despite the attempts of our adversaries to play dirty and drive a wedge between the two peoples," Rudenko said.
He recalled that high-ranking members of the Iranian government, including those who recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, assured him "of their readiness to strengthen the entire range of diverse ties and implement mutually beneficial projects of the previous government in accordance with the strategic plan in line with the course set by the Iranian Supreme Leader."
Rudenko previously told TASS that Russia and Iran have completed the drafting of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement and that it will be signed in the near future.
