After Croatia's appeal against the export of milk from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Union was rejected today, BiH dairies can finally breathe a sigh of relief and already send the first shipments across BiH borders, writes the BiH news agency Patria.
Adin Fakić, director of the Milkos dairy from Sarajevo, told the Patria news agency that such a decision was expected. The first export from this dairy will be directed towards Croatia and Italy.
- First to Croatia, as we did before July 1, 2013, when it joined the European Union, but this time we are coming with new products. These are Feta cheese, Ayran, and sour cream, products that Croatia does not have and that customers want - said Fakić.
He pointed out that BiH cannot be competitive in Croatia with milk alone due to low prices, which is why they decided to offer new products.
Fakić explained that they are now working on technical procedures such as changing labels so that they can start exporting soon.
- This was an example of how not everything is always up to us. The situation is much more relaxed now, and we have confirmation that we can move forward at full speed - said Fakić.
Kemal Hrnjić, director of the Meggle Bihać dairy, had an identical comment on this decision.
- Expected. We will have the first export shipments very soon. It will most likely be the Croatian market. We are preparing so that there are no mistakes at the borders, as the procedures are different now - Hrnjić told NAP.
Dairies that can export to the EU, besides these two, are Livno and Mlijekoprodukt.
