Young people in Sarajevo Canton can get 12,000 KM for apartment purchase, but must have residence in Sarajevo for the next five years

(Patria) - The Sarajevo Canton Government adopted today the Decision on subsidizing the resolution of the housing issue for young people.

The public call for young people, with criteria for applying for the subsidy, will be announced next week on the official website of the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton, announced the relevant minister Almir Bečarević.

“The individual amount for subsidies has been increased compared to previous years and amounts to up to 12,000 KM. This amount was determined in line with inflationary trends and the rise in apartment prices. The fact is that it is insufficient, but it is a good form of assistance, and we hope that as many young people as possible will apply to the Public Call. Unfortunately, the number of applicants is declining year by year, and that should concern all of us,” stated Minister Bečarević.

He emphasized that the criteria for applying have been partially changed compared to previous years, and one of them concerns the length of residence in Sarajevo Canton.

“We took into account all the objections from young people that we received in the past period, primarily that they had to meet the criterion of residing for three years in Sarajevo Canton to apply for the Public Call, as was prescribed in previous years. Under the new Public Call, the condition for applying will be that the applicant has residence in the area of Sarajevo Canton on the day of submitting the application, but also that they commit to having residence in the area of the Canton continuously for a period of five years from the day of payment of funds under the subsidy and that they will submit a CIPS residence registration to the Ministry by January 30 of each year,” stated, among other things, Minister Bečarević, with an invitation to young people to apply for the Public Call and exercise their right to support in purchasing an apartment.

For subsidizing the resolution of the housing issue for young people, 5.5 million KM has been secured in this year's Budget of Sarajevo Canton.
