Donja Jablanica residents on the streets awaiting help from authorities: Winter is coming, and we are still homeless

(Patria) - Residents of Donja Jablanica have again taken to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the lack of assistance from relevant institutions.

Weeks after the catastrophic floods that hit this area, key issues have not been resolved.

As the residents stated, they are dissatisfied with the authorities' response and expect help in repairing their destroyed homes. Tufer Bakir, president of the Local Community of Donja Jablanica, also addressed the media.

- We have no official information. No one shares any information with us. We are seeking support from anyone. We have also contacted the OHR. We want to reach higher levels of government. The main request is to resolve the assessment of the quarry's safety. Are the houses possible to renovate or will they be demolished? We have no information on whether it is safe to renovate a house there? - he stated for N1.

He then added:

- On the first day, there were 189 displaced persons, some have returned. There are still about 100 people who do not live in their homes. Everything is going very slowly. Currently, only a machine from the Pomozi.ba Association is on the ground. One machine is too little for our needs to clean all this up. We are still in the phase of peaceful gatherings, we will see how long we have the patience. People have less and less patience. Winter is coming, people are not in their homes. Everyone is staying with relatives or friends. They will most likely have to spend the winter there.

Ćamila Imamović, a resident of Donja Jablanica, also addressed the media.

- Thank God my family and I are alive and well. Now new problems are arising. We are not in our house. We have a house that could be renovated, but we don't have security. We feel bad. I have the feeling that we have been left to ourselves. That hurts us. We are not a bad organization, we are just residents who are endangered. We are only asking for the right to live. Currently, I am staying with my sister. No one is coming, no one is doing anything. I am afraid of every rain and every passing truck behind my house - she said.

She stated that the authorities must do their job.

- I don't know how long we will be patient. We are not asking for charity, but for our rights. We will be rigorous if this continues, even to our detriment. If the law does not respect us, we will not respect it either. They haven't even bothered to protect the houses that are left. Politicians say they are cold. Let's not send them our containers and let them warm up. We are telling them to finally start doing their job. We will defend our rights at the cost of our lives - Imamović emphasized.

Dženan Šašić comes from the village of Zlate to offer support, but they have the same problems.

- For 4 weeks, there has been no machinery present. It is frustrating how slowly they are working. The Pomozi.ba Association is doing the job of politicians. The negligence of the authorities irritates us. This is a fight for all Jablanica residents - Šašić said.

We remind you that at the beginning of October this year, 19 people lost their lives in the area of Donja Jablanica.
