Mirza Duran sentenced to 43 years in prison in first-instance ruling for brutal murder of Nadira Sahačić

(Patria) - The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo has issued a first-instance verdict sentencing Mirza Duran to 43 years in prison for the heinous murder of Nadira Sahačić, which occurred in her apartment in the Ciglane neighborhood of Sarajevo on the night between August 18 and 19 last year.

According to the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, the murder was committed in an extremely cruel and monstrous manner. Nadira was mutilated with two knives, sustained over 80 stab wounds, and was ultimately slaughtered.

The body of the unfortunate woman was found in the apartment by her son, Alden, and the scene, according to witnesses, was horrific – traces of blood were found on the floor, the staircase, and even on the light switches.

During the trial, the prosecutor emphasized that it was a brutal attack in which Nadira desperately defended herself – which was also confirmed by the expert examination of Dr. Nedim Sarajlić, who determined that numerous injuries occurred while the victim was trying to protect vital parts of her body with her hands.

Given that this is a first-instance verdict, there is a possibility of appeal. The prosecution stated at one of the previous hearings for the determination of custody that Duran did not know the victim at all and saw her for the first time on that fateful day, writes Hayat.

- This is a vile crime. The motive has not been identified, nor has it been established that the accused was connected to the victim or had ever seen her before. His only connection to the victim is that his friend lives next door to the victim, meaning they are immediate neighbors - said the prosecutor.
