Miro Lazović: DF and GS should unite with SDP

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - I don't see what is controversial about a group of people discussing the current position of the social democratic idea and its future.

This is what the vice-president of the SDP, Miro Lazović, thinks, after the media reported that on May 9 in Sarajevo, several former and current political officials of left-wing political parties will gather to initiate the formation of a new political movement of social democratic orientation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I don't see what is controversial about that group of people expanding as a movement for the renewal and strengthening of that idea. So, not as a new party, but as ideologically committed and free-thinking people who want, in an organized and public way, through political parties they are members of, non-governmental organizations and other organizations in which they operate, or as prominent individuals, to advocate for the need for cooperation leading to the unification of the currently fragmented and crumbled 'left' idea. Without public pressure, social democracy as an integrating idea will remain divided by daily political, personal and party interests,” Lazović believes, as reported by the Patria agency.

He is convinced that, as he stated, without a renewed and consolidated “social democracy,” Bosnia and Herzegovina will remain a playground for political conflicts and ethnic divisions.

“I remain firmly committed to the position that it is necessary to work, first, on the unification of DF and GS with the SDP, because these are branches that have separated from their parent party,” Lazović said.

He emphasized that the SDP, whose roots, as he said, are deeper and more firmly tied to this country than any other party, should initiate and lead these processes.

“All those who think differently and who are against the renewal and unification of social democracy should say so publicly, and not, hidden through social networks and sent 'directives,' slander and attack the advocates of unification,” Lazović concluded.
