Health Minister unclear on KCUS procedures in the case of little Nadin

The family of the little girl Nadin Smajlović, whom KCUS employees refused to treat in this institution in 2019, and the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office last year issued an order not to conduct an investigation, still does not give up the fight to prove that they were harmed in this case.

The Smajlović family recently received a letter from the Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was forwarded to them by the Ministry of Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, headed by Minister Vjekoslav Mandić (HDZ).

In his letter to the ombudsman, Mandić wrote that it is unclear to him why a discharge note and approval for treatment abroad were not written.

He even suggests amending certain laws to prevent such cases from happening again.

The letter states that an insured person can be referred for treatment abroad at the expense of the Solidarity Fund of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina only if it concerns a disease, condition, or injury that cannot be treated in the Federation.

In this specific case, Mandić states, after reviewing the case file, "it is unclear why a proposal for transferring the minor patient for treatment abroad was never submitted, even though the Council's opinion stated that the best benefit for the patient would be to continue treatment outside Bosnia and Herzegovina."

The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, we remind, issued an order in November last year not to conduct an investigation based on the complaint filed by Amina Smajlović, the mother of the minor girl Nadin Smajlović, regarding the failure to provide medical assistance and the unauthorized disclosure of professional secrets by KCUS.
