Minister Sofić and Director Kravić: Pediatric Department at General Hospital to Open Soon

Minister of Health of Sarajevo Canton Amela Sofić was on a working visit today with her associates to JU General Hospital „Prim.dr Abdulah Nakaš“, where she discussed with director Zlatko Kravić and the management of this healthcare institution the commencement of the opening of the Department of Pediatrics.

Minister Sofić emphasized that the Ministry has provided the necessary financial resources from the 2019 budget for the procurement of equipment, while last year funds were secured for the reconstruction of the premises.

At the proposal of this ministry, the Government of Sarajevo Canton also gave its consent for the employment of specialist pediatricians and pediatric nurses/technicians to work in this department. Director Kravić informed those present that the tender procedure for the procurement of equipment for the pediatric department is underway and that its opening is expected soon. Initial discussions have also begun regarding the need to resolve the issue of hemodialysis patients, considering the accumulated problems concerning this category of patients in Sarajevo Canton.

The current spatial capacities of the KCUS Hemodialysis Clinic are insufficient to provide treatment to new uremic patients, as operations are already running in four shifts, making it necessary to initiate activities aimed at finally resolving adequate treatment for hemodialysis patients by opening new dialysis capacities.

“Discussions were also held on the need to resolve the issue of care for patients requiring palliative and geriatric care, for which there are also prerequisites for resolution in this hospital,” it was stated.

Minister Sofić and Director Kravić, with their associates, also visited the Radiology Department. Two MRI and two CT scanners are operational here, running in two shifts, which has led to a reduction in waiting lists for these services. They also visited the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, the Day Hospital, and the newly renovated premises for pediatrics.

It was agreed that discussions on all the aforementioned topics will continue with the aim of providing higher quality healthcare to the citizens of Sarajevo Canton, which the Ministry of Health and this hospital will continue to actively work on, it was stated.
