
The Council of Ministers of BiH, at the proposal of the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH, adopted the Information on undertaken activities aimed at accelerating the digitalisation process in BiH. The information and proposed conclusions are the result of cooperation between the Ministry and the Communications Regulatory Agency of BiH and meetings at the highest level of the two institutions during which certain courses of action were defined to mitigate the negative consequences of the delay in introducing digital broadcasting, reports the Patria news agency.
In the upcoming period, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH will submit to the Council of Ministers for adoption a Proposal for a decision on exempting Public Radio and Television (RTV) services in BiH and commercial TV stations in BiH from the obligation to pay the state contribution for the use of radio frequency spectrum.
The Ministry of Communications and Transport will also appoint a Commission for the procurement of digital microwave links for Public RTV services in BiH – Phase II, and consider the possibility of transitioning from the DVB-T standard to the DVB-T2 standard, following technological progress, with the aim of assisting commercial TV stations, and consider the manner in which the population of BiH will be subsidised for the procurement of STB boxes.
Also, the Ministry is currently finalising activities regarding the takeover of the remaining digital equipment procured in the first phase of digitalisation, and the start of installing the same equipment at facilities across BiH. It is expected that the test signal will be launched in the next three months, it was announced from the relevant ministry.
