Nine children with developmental difficulties began their primary education today at the Institute for Special Education and Upbringing of Children “Mjedenica” in Sarajevo. Particularly because of that, and also on the occasion of the start of the new 2015/2016 school year, the Minister for Education, Science and Youth, Elvir Kazazović, visited this institution and toured the first-graders, as well as all other children and dedicated employees, as his intention is that the wards and employees of institutions of this type receive special treatment and status in his future work, and in the education system of the Sarajevo Canton in general, reports the Patria news agency.
At a suitable ceremony organized in honor of the first-graders and with special gifts, Minister Kazazović wished the parents and first-grade students all the best, good health, and much success in life, work, and learning. From this place, he sent his wishes to all other first-graders, as well as to children of all ages who have started new levels of education in this school year.
-These gifts are a small token of attention for the little ones of this institution, who deserve continuous systemic care from the entire community, said Minister Kazazović, adding that the smile on the faces of these and all other children gives every person the incentive to do everything necessary for them, especially for their education.
The employees and children performed a suitable program in their own unique way and thus thanked their guest of the day. Today's visit was also an opportunity for director Selmir Hadžić to acquaint Minister Kazazović with the work and functioning of the institution, during which they toured almost all classrooms and spaces in the building together.
-The Institute currently houses 170 wards from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, 55 of whom reside in the boarding school. This number is not final, because children can be enrolled here throughout the year, in fact, at the moment when evident developmental difficulties are established in them or some administrative procedures are resolved.
As for the educational process, we have organized preschool and primary education, work with children in occupational workshops, extended day care, and boarding school stays mainly for children from remote areas or from families living in difficult social circumstances, explained Director Hadžić, as announced by the Government of the Sarajevo Canton.
