Minimum wage of 1,000 KM means higher basis for disability benefits, but these expenses are not foreseen in the decision

(Patria) - The Government of the Federation of BiH made a decision today that the minimum wage in the Federation of BiH for 2025 will be 1000 KM net. Official reactions are still timid. Some fear job losses, while others on social networks are raising questions about other incomes that are strongly tied to the minimum wage in the Federation.

If the decision is anything to go by, many laws that use the minimum wage as a basis for various social categories have not been included in the financial resources for the implementation of the decision.

“Additional funds are needed for the implementation of this decision within the budget of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, where an increase in funds is planned for the economic code for ‘parent caregivers’ in accordance with the law on parent caregivers in FBiH,” the Government's explanation for this decision states.



Minister of Labour and Social Policy Adnan Delić mentioned three laws at the Government session, but the rest of the FBiH Government easily dismissed these warnings.

A discussion has now started about what will happen with disability benefits, given that the basis for calculating income for children and persons with disabilities, according to the law, is 80% of the minimum wage, which means the basis should be 800 KM.

A theory is developing on social networks, while officials have not addressed it in statements or press releases.

Incidentally, Article 18 of the Law on Social Protection of the Federation of BiH allows the Government of the Federation of BiH to determine the coefficient for the payment of these benefits, and it is likely that the new basis for calculating personal disability benefits and the right to care and assistance from others will not be known until the first payment for 2025.

Let us recall that a session of the Economic and Social Council for the Territory of the Federation of BiH was held earlier in Sarajevo. It was then explained that a minimum wage of 1000 KM is not acceptable.

President of UPFBIH Mario Nenadić said that what was expected to be agreed upon was not agreed upon.

“The Decree on minimum income, which implied a sequence of activities and the amount of minimum income, did not meet with understanding. The proposal of 1000 KM for minimum income was not accepted. As a reaction to such a proposal from UPFBIH, or rather the proposal that was planned, we received verbal notification of the FBiH Government's intention to proceed with a minimum wage of 1000 KM this time. Employers are against it, given that these are high standards and cannot be met. If this is adopted, we will have serious problems,” said Nenadić.
