Islamic State militants have revealed their latest horrifying tactic - they are using bombs containing hundreds of live scorpions with the aim of spreading fear among their enemies, media report.
Containers full of poisonous scorpion species are thrown at towns and villages, and when they explode, the scorpions scatter and cause panic among the innocent population. This is actually a tactic that is thousands of years old, first used by the Iraqis in their fight against the Roman Empire.
Although scorpion bombs do not actually cause casualties, they have a deep psychological effect.
