Millions in damages at Jahorina Olympic Center, start of winter season in question

(Patria) - Floods that hit the Sarajevo-Romanija region have caused millions in damages to the Jahorina Olympic Center, said the technical director of this center, Bojan Čupović.

Most of the ski slopes, parking lots, and parts of the road have been destroyed, and some are still impassable. Gondolas and six-seater chairlifts have also been submerged.

"On Saturday, heavy rains with stormy winds in a short period caused flash floods, which in a short time caused enormous, or rather, millions in damages to the Jahorina Olympic Center," Čupović stated.

He added that the lake has been destroyed and filled with mud, which will hinder the operation of the artificial snowmaking system.

Due to the damages caused by the storm, the start of the winter season is also in question.

Čupović said that the extent of the damage is still unknown.

"We will make maximum efforts to repair and start the season, but the damages are enormous," said Čupović.

If the precipitation continues, even greater damage will occur.
