SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Jelka Milićević, commander of the Federal Civil Protection Headquarters, said that all previously adopted decisions on measures have been extended and will remain in effect beyond March 31.
"Provisions that certain facilities remain closed are still in effect. Today, we also made a special order related to persons temporarily deprived of liberty," said Milićević.
She emphasized that they are working at reduced capacity.
"I want to express my gratitude to the old members of the Headquarters; although there were many of us, we worked, we recognized the crisis in time, and we made a decision boldly and courageously. This allowed healthcare institutions to prepare," said Milićević.
She explained that the first decision called for the procurement of 30,000 tests.
"The first 1,500 arrived and were distributed, and before the Headquarters session today at 2 PM, another 20,000 tests were received, and they will be distributed according to expert recommendations. We in the Headquarters must ensure logistics, and healthcare workers through the institutes must do their part in distribution," said Milićević.
She commented on the decision to procure 170,000 tests and answered the question of whether it is known who will supply these tests.
"At the Civil Protection Headquarters, we only make the decision to initiate public procurement. The next phase is carried out by the FUCZ. They look for suppliers and report to us about it," said Milićević, adding that healthcare professionals must establish coordination vertically and inform the Headquarters of their needs.
She emphasized that the impression is that everyone knows everything.
"Experts must be listened to when it comes to developing a strategy to combat the coronavirus," Milićević added, stating that experts decided to proceed with mass testing as soon as the 170,000 tests are obtained.
"What I asked was whether these 170,000 tests comply with all expert requirements and if they are suitable for the condition of our laboratories. When we received confirmation from the Public Health Institute that everything was in order, we proceeded with the procurement," Milićević added.
She also touched upon layoffs in the Federation.
"According to our analyses, these are small business owners whom we have banned from operating. We are monitoring this with concern, but it is realistic. All employment services will be reimbursed by the FBiH Government if they lack funds for benefits, and they will also have health protection," said Milićević.
