(Patria) - The Michigan Supreme Court refused to consider a request from voters seeking to disqualify Donald Trump from next year's presidential election due to his role in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
This ruling allows Trump to remain on the ballot in that state.
Voters attempted to disqualify Trump under a provision in the U.S. Constitution that prohibits individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding office, if they have previously taken an oath.
The Colorado Supreme Court disqualified Trump's candidacy in Colorado last week, citing the aforementioned constitutional rule.
Other cases seeking to declare Trump ineligible are pending in state courts, ahead of the presidential election on November 5, 2024.
Thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, forcing lawmakers to evacuate the building for safety and delaying the constitutionally mandated vote ahead of the inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden later that month.
