Mia Farrow: Mothers are still searching for their sons

(Patria) - On the occasion of the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide, numerous individuals, groups, and organizations from around the world have spoken out.

We are sharing some of the messages posted on Twitter.

Holocaust Memorial Day Trust from Great Britain: 'Tomorrow marks 24 years since the start of the Srebrenica genocide when 8,000 men and boys were massacred by Bosnian Serb forces.' The profile also published a link with the testimony of a survivor, 17-year-old Nedžad Avdić.

UNIRMCT (UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals) announces that the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide is being commemorated in the next 10 days: 'Through a series of posts based on ICTY archival material, we honor and remember the victims of these horrific crimes.'

Ian Blackford, Member of the British Parliament called Srebrenica 'a stark reminder of man's inhumanity to man in the form of vile genocide. We must do everything in our power to fight fanaticism and hatred, and to ensure this never happens again.'

The famous American actress and activist Mia Farrow recalled her visit to Srebrenica in 2007 and stated via Twitter: 'Srebrenica genocide, July 1995, over 8,000 men and boys killed by the Bosnian Serb Army. In 1993, the UN declared Srebrenica a 'safe zone' under UN protection. However, Dutch forces failed to prevent the massacre. The mothers in this photo are still searching for their sons.'

Farrow posted photos from her visit to Potočari in 2007 and added that she was 'honored to meet some of the mothers and widows of Srebrenica'.

West Yorkshire Police posted on their Twitter profile: Tomorrow, July 11th, is Srebrenica Memorial Day. Genocide does not happen overnight, and it starts with hate.'

Oliver Kamm, columnist for The Times magazine stated via Twitter that 'this week is the Srebrenica genocide remembrance week, held annually in memory of the 8,000 Bosnian Muslims, men and boys killed in the 1995 genocide – the worst atrocity in post-war Europe.' He also praised the organizations Srebrenica UK and the International Commission on Missing Persons, stating that they 'do an excellent job'.

British lawyer Jasvir Singh, an interfaith activist and co-chair of Faiths Forum London, stated that he is marking the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide with Srebrenica UK and that it is 'good to see how many people have come forward from various fields.' He said that 'bridging divides and confronting hatred is important, now more than ever,' Singh posted on his Twitter profile.
