Mešalić: The Troika and HDZ want to reduce POSKOK's capacity and thus prevent the prosecution of their cadres for corruption

(Patria) - Representatives of the Democratic Front (DF) in the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina have strongly condemned the attempt to place judicial institutions under the control of the HDZ BiH.

Namely, the Government of the FBiH, led by Nermin Nikšić, wants to completely place criminal proceedings under the political control of the HDZ BiH through the Law on Expert Witnesses, announced the head of the DF Club in the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament, Mahir Mešalić.

- For the public and the media, we are obliged to explain that the adoption of such a law would mean and enable the FBiH Minister of Justice from the HDZ to form "his own" Commission that appoints and dismisses all expert witnesses in the Federation of BiH.

And it is precisely the findings of these expert witnesses that would be key in the proceedings conducted by the Special Department for the Fight against Corruption and Organized Crime (POSKOK) of the Federal Prosecutor's Office - Mešalić points out.

From the DF Club, they state that they know Dragan Čović demanded this from Nikšić, to which Nikšić evidently agreed, after which the FBiH Government submitted the disputed Law on Judicial Expert Witnesses of the FBiH to the parliamentary procedure.

- We appeal to the representatives in the FBiH to reject the brutal interference of politics and the delivery of such political power over the judiciary to the HDZ BiH at the session of the House of Representatives scheduled for September 25, 2025 - Mešalić emphasized.

The Democratic Front, he adds, supports the reactions of the Chief Federal Prosecutor Munib Halilović and the President of the Supreme Court of the FBiH Vesna Stanković-Ćosović, who in their letter to the relevant Ministry of Justice and Minister Vedran Škrobić (HDZ), as well as the leadership of both houses of the FBiH Parliament, Dragan Mioković (Our Party) and Tomislav Martinović (HDZ), point out the detrimental nature of adopting such a law.

- By submitting such a Law to the parliamentary procedure, the Troika and the HDZ want to reduce POSKOK's capacity and thus prevent the prosecution of their cadres for corruption, which is unacceptable, as is the complete politicization and privatization of the judiciary - Mešalić concluded.
