(Patria) - Organized by the Directorate for Religious Affairs of the Riyasat, the Medžlis of the Islamic Community of Sarajevo and the Gazi Husrev-beg's Waqf, on Thursday, 4 September 2025, at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo, after the afternoon prayer, on the occasion of marking 12th Rabi' al-Awwal – the day of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, the Central Mawlid will be recited.
The Mawlid will be recited by imams of the Medžlis of the Islamic Community of Sarajevo, and the sermon will be delivered by hafiz Mehmed-ef. Kudić, mufti of Bihać.
The Director of the Directorate for Religious Affairs of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community, Dr. hfz. Mensur-ef. Malkić, emphasizes for the MINA Agency that Rabi' al-Awwal, the month of the Prophet's birth, peace be upon him, is a time when believers reflect on his messages, strengthen spiritual connection, and renew religious awareness.
– The Mawlid, which marks the birth of the last of Allah's messengers, Muhammad, peace be upon him, has deep theological value. The term itself means 'birth,' and Islamic tradition emphasizes that the coming of the Prophet is a key event in human history, because he delivered the Revelation to humanity, taught and called for justice and mercy, and showed people the path to salvation – says Dr. hfz. Mensur-ef. Malkić.
According to his words, the time of Mawlid is not only a reminder of a historical event but also an opportunity for introspective spiritual renewal.
– Through recitation of the Qur'an, the Mawlid, and appropriate lectures, believers are reminded of the Prophet's life lessons: sincerity, honesty, compassion for others, responsibility towards the community, and devotion to the Creator – emphasizes Director Malkić.
He adds that the Mawlid is a time when the heart turns to truth, and the soul deepens its connection with the Lord.
– It is an opportunity to strengthen our faith and renew moral values through remembrance of the Prophet, peace be upon him – conveys Dr. hfz. Mensur-ef. Malkić.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Mawlid has held a special place in cultural and religious life for centuries. Programs usually include recitation of the Qur'an, the Mawlid, dhikr, appropriate lectures, and a collective prayer for the congregation and the homeland.
– In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Mawlid also has a social character – it gathers youth, congregation members, and believers of all generations. Through the active involvement of young people in the realization of these programs, we transmit religious and moral values to the next generations – emphasizes Malkić.
Finally, the Director of the Directorate for Religious Affairs reminds that the primary goal of the Mawlid is spiritual education and moral upbringing.
– The Mawlid celebrations, which will be held in these days organized by various levels of the Islamic Community, are an opportunity, certainly, for collective reflection but also for practical learning – how to live the faith in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet, peace be upon him, in a contemporary context. Also, they are an opportunity for believers to develop both inner spiritual strength and a sense of responsibility towards the community and the homeland – conveyed Director Malkić.
