One of the greatest footballers BiH has ever had, Meho Kodro, is ready to take over the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the Patria agency.
A legend of Velež and Real Sociedad, he is the only Bosnian and Herzegovinian to have worn the jersey of the great Barcelona.
After finishing his playing career, the famous Mostar native embarked on a coaching career.
After short stints at Real Sociedad and Sarajevo, he settled at the former Swiss champion Servette from Geneva.
Following the BiH national team's failure in the World Cup qualifiers, which will most likely cost Mehmed Baždarević his job, Kodro is the first candidate for his successor.
His contract with the club, which lasts until the end of the season, is not an obstacle to his return to the BiH bench.
- Meho is ready to terminate his contract with the club if the Football Association of BiH requests it. The national team has always been something special to him, and he has often said that he would like to get the opportunity to lead it again and successfully finish something he started but did not finish - said a source close to our coach to the portal Sportske.ba.
The Executive Board of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina dismissed Kodro from the position of national team coach after he told the association's leadership that he opposed leading our team in a friendly match against Iran, which was supposed to be played on May 26, 2008, in Tehran.
Kodro was elected as the coach on January 5, 2008. Under his leadership, the BiH team played two friendly matches, losing to Japan 0:3 and drawing with Macedonia 2:2.
