Meho Kodro is the new coach of the BiH national team!

Bosnia and Herzegovina has a new-old coach. Meho Kodro has been officially appointed as the head of the professional staff who will lead the Dragons in the continuation of the European Championship qualifiers.

Kodro succeeds Faruk Hadžibegić on the BiH bench, and just like his predecessor, this will be the legendary striker's second term as coach.

It had been speculated for several weeks that Kodro would be appointed coach of the A national team, and after today's session of the NSBiH Executive Board, all dilemmas were resolved.

This 56-year-old's last coaching engagement was in Switzerland, where he managed the Stade-Lausanne team, and before that, he worked as a coach for Servette in the same country.

The experienced coach will have to roll up his sleeves immediately and start working on the list of players he will count on in the September qualifying window.

Kodro will make his debut on the bench in his second term on September 8 in Zenica at Bilino Polje, and three days later, a visit to Iceland follows.

Kodro first led the Dragons during the famous conflict between fans and the Association in 2008, when Iljo Dominković was president. He sat on the bench for two friendly matches against Japan and North Macedonia.

It is more or less known to everyone how Kodro and Elvir Bolić organized a friendly match in June 2008 at the Asim Ferhatović Hase stadium with 15,000 spectators in the stands.

The same night, Azerbaijan was defeated at Bilino Polje in front of a record low number of spectators. Debutants mostly played for BiH, and Denijla Pirić sat on the bench.

Incidentally, Kodro led the BiH national team in friendly duels against Japan and North Macedonia. Since then, he has worked in club football, and for a time he was also the coach of FK Sarajevo.

As a reminder, the Dragons continue their qualifiers in September with a home match against Liechtenstein and an away game against Iceland.

After four rounds played in qualifying group J, Portugal is maximal with 12 points, followed by Slovakia with 10, Luxembourg with 7, BiH and Iceland with 3 points each, while Liechtenstein is without points, writes Sportsport.ba.
