Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals launches media page and campaign on Srebrenica genocide

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) today launched a page with practical information for the media, intended for use by the media as part of broader coverage of the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

In addition, on 9 July 2019, as part of the commemorations, the Mechanism's Programme for Information on Communities Affected by Conflicts (PMI) will launch a social media campaign, titled “Remembering the Srebrenica Genocide”, the Mechanism announced.

The page with practical information for the media contains selected information on cases, including case summaries, key documents and guilty pleas, as well as a compilation of archival audio-visual material from cases concluded before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the Mechanism related to crimes committed in Srebrenica in July 1995. 

The social media campaign, to be launched by the PMI, will run from 9 July to 18 July 2019 and will mark key events that occurred during that period in 1995 in Srebrenica, as established in cases concluded before the ICTY and the Mechanism. The campaign will feature multiple informational videos, infographics and timely social media posts, and will use archival material entered into evidence in proceedings before the ICTY and the Mechanism, such as witness statements, original audio-visual material, military reports and forensic documents. 

The Mechanism's Information Programme began in January 2019, with the aim of contributing to raising awareness and knowledge among communities affected by conflicts about the conflict in the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s based on cases before the ICTY and the Mechanism. The programme is generously supported by the European Union.
