(Patria) - The Janja Council of the Islamic Community (MIZ) has been successfully using waqf land for agricultural production for 12 years, and this year's wheat yield – an average of 870 kilograms per dulum – exceeded all expectations, despite unfavorable weather conditions.
As told to the MINA agency by the chief imam, hafiz Omer-ef. Camić, around 130 dulum of land is cultivated, and in addition to wheat, they also grow potatoes and corn.
Part of the potato yield is intended for educational institutions of the Islamic Community. Members of the Executive Board, imams, and congregation members participate in the work, and during the harvest, an even larger number of believers get involved.
Although yields are increasing, a problem remains – purchase. They deliver the wheat to millers, often without a pre-agreed price. They see a solution in building their own silos and a dryer, a project that is already in an advanced stage – the silos have arrived from Italy, and the dryer from Turkey.
The Janja Council is also recording records in corn yield – for two consecutive years, they have been first in yields in the smaller BiH entity, with as much as 12.5 tons per dulum.
"Our goal is to move forward, towards greater and better results," says ef. Camić.
