International Day of Missing Persons: 7,000 people still missing in BiH

 The Association for Social Research and Communication (UDIK), in cooperation with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and the Peacebuilding Network, will hold an activity today on the occasion of the International Day of Missing Persons. The activity will take place in Sarajevo between 11 AM and 2 PM in front of the Monument to the Children of Sarajevo killed in the war, reports the Patria News Agency.

We remind that the United Nations, at the initiative of associations from Latin America that gather families of missing and forcibly disappeared persons, declared August 30th as the International Day of Missing Persons. This day is an unavoidable opportunity to once again highlight the clarification of cases of missing persons during the year, but also to educate the public about the value of every piece of information about a missing person.

Families of missing persons have the right to know the truth about the fate of their loved ones, and society as a whole has a legal and moral obligation to help them in their search.

The total number of missing persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina is 34,965. 7,000 people are still being searched for. For this reason, on Sunday, we remember all missing persons and express support to the families who have not yet realized their basic humanitarian right – to know the truth about the fate of their loved ones.
