International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: The problem that is destroying society will be highlighted in the center of Sarajevo!

(Patria) - The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed on November 25 and will mark the beginning of a campaign against this form of human rights violation, which will last until December 10.

Seven women have been killed in Bosnia and Herzegovina since the beginning of the year, five of them in the Federation of BiH entity and two in the Republika Srpska, stated the "Kjur" Foundation.

The Foundation emphasized that violence against women is a crime, not an accident, but a serious societal problem.

The need to ensure prevention and protection from violence against women and girls through competent institutions and multi-sectoral protocols, as well as the consistent application of the law in cases where death results from domestic violence, ensuring that the perpetrator is convicted, was highlighted.

The "Kjur" Foundation will organize a street action today in Sarajevo in front of the "Aria" Shopping Center at 11:00 AM, during which they will present basic information about the campaign and its goals.

The street action aims to draw attention to victims of femicide and violence against women that occurs daily worldwide, often ending in murder.

Violence against women and girls is one of the most common human rights violations in the world. During 2023, on average, one woman was killed every ten minutes, the UN announced.

For at least 51,100 women in 2023, the cycle of gender-based violence ended with them being killed by a partner or family member, the UN emphasized.
