Federal Minister of Education and Science Damir Mašić today presented deserved awards and one-time monetary awards to the best students from all 73 public faculties in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for their excellent performance in the past academic year. Funds for one-time financial support, in the amount of KM 1,500.00 each, were provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science from the Budget of the Federation of BiH for 2014, reports the BiH news agency Patria.
In accordance with the Decision on the procedure for nominating candidates for support, students were nominated by faculties, including affiliated members, operating within public higher education institutions in the Federation of BiH (universities in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica and Bihać, as well as the University “Džemal Bijedić“ Mostar and the University of Mostar), one best student each.
- With this, we want to send a message to all young people that hard work is always recognized, and the best achievements are rewarded. Also, on this occasion, I want to express my gratitude to all public higher education institutions, as well as professors and teachers who invest a lot of effort and dedication to students in their daily work, in order for them to achieve the best learning results - said Minister Mašić.
The Federal Minister warned that the reform of education, including higher education, is significantly slowed down due to the decentralized system in our country and is progressing unevenly. Therefore, in line with its coordinating role, the Ministry has directed its activities towards supporting the implementation of the Bologna Process and the development of student standards, taking significant steps regarding basic and extended student standards.
- In this regard, we subsidize accommodation and food for about 430 students annually in student centers in FBiH, support the education of students with disabilities and the education of Roma at public higher education institutions, and provide support for various projects of student organizations. The Ministry also co-finances the Student Loan Fund of the Federation of BiH and provides support for scientific advancement in postgraduate and doctoral studies, and among other things, assists libraries of higher education institutions in ensuring the availability of textbooks and basic student literature for study programs - emphasized Minister Mašić.
Otherwise, through this and similar activities and projects – such as the traditional event “Knowledge into the Future“ within which talented primary and secondary school students are awarded – the Federal Ministry of Education and Science aims to highlight the value of effort, commitment, and perseverance, affirming excellence in work and knowledge, as well as the recognizable results of all successful and diligent young people in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
