(Patria) – Thousands of Welsh residents gathered in the capital, Cardiff, for the first independence march in the country's history.
The leader of the national party Plaid Cymru stated that Wales's problems could be more easily solved within the country. 'For a long time, our desire for an independent Wales seemed distant. But times are changing, the marches are getting bigger, and the voices are getting louder,' he explained the current sentiment in the country, spurred by Brexit.
A recently conducted poll shows that around 12 percent of Welsh residents support the idea of independence.
While some of the citizens who came out to protest say they have long supported the idea of independence, others claim that events related to Brexit have prompted them to start thinking in that direction.
'Decades of neglect by Westminster have resulted in poverty and poor investment. A third of our children live in relative poverty, and you only need to look at the chaos surrounding Brexit to understand that Westminster is incapable of leading or representing Wales,' claims the leader of the national party.
The debate regarding the constitution of Wales has intensified since the referendum in Great Britain that decided the country would leave the European Union.
