(Patria) - The new, old mayor of Mostar is Mario Kordić, decided the councilors of the new convocation of the Mostar City Council after three rounds of voting.
Kordić was in the race with Đani Rahimić, who was nominated by the Coalition for Mostar, and Slaven Bevanda, who was nominated by HRS. After counting, in the first round, 17 councilors voted for Mario Kordić, 13 for Đani Rahimić, and three for Slaven Bevanda.
Two councilors submitted invalid ballots. One was unfilled and the other was incorrectly filled. Kordić and Rahimić entered the second round of voting. Although it was stated that both rounds of voting would last ten minutes, both rounds lasted significantly longer. In the second round, Rahimić received 13 votes, and Kordić received 19.
There were three invalid ballots.
Since a two-thirds majority was not achieved, a third round of voting was held, in which a simple majority of votes from the elected city councilors is required to elect the mayor.
After Mario Kordić was elected mayor of Mostar, Rahimić will take over the function of the President of the City Council, given that persons of the same ethnicity cannot hold these two positions.
Kordić and Rahimić also won the most individual votes from Mostar citizens in the elections. Kordić received 11,523 votes in the elections, and Rahimić received 8,938 votes.
We remind you that HDZ has 15 councilors in the new convocation of the Mostar Council, the Coalition for Mostar has ten, the Coalition Grade moj has three, as does HRS, while the Trojka parties will have two mandates, and Hrvatska lista za Jug and HDZ 1990 will have one each.
