Mandić for NAP: Eternal flame lit at Vraca after 27 years

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - One day before Victory over Fascism Day and Europe Day, a flame was lit at the Vraca Memorial Park today after 27 years. The flame was lit by the Minister of Communal Economy and Infrastructure of Sarajevo Canton, Srđan Mandić, who told the Patria agency that it was a test lighting of the flame, and that the central ceremony would be tomorrow, May 9.

“After the state anthem is played, the flame will be lit by Raif Dizdarević and it will remain lit from tomorrow onwards. What is interesting is that it will be visible from higher points in Sarajevo,” Mandić told Patria.

The minister points out that in the past period, teams from KJKP Rad and KJKP Park have worked in detail on cleaning and arranging the Vraca Memorial Park.

“The first phase of the renovation of the Vraca Memorial Park has been completed, and in the second phase, funds need to be found for permanent maintenance, installation of video surveillance, security, and placement of benches in order to revive this space and make it a mandatory tourist destination,” said Mandić.

The desire is to restore its splendor given its significance, as the Vraca Memorial Park is one of the symbols of the anti-fascist struggle, the minister explains.

“We will cooperate with the communal services of Istočno Novo Sarajevo in order to maintain this area together. Walter Perić is also buried at Vraca, it is very important to revive that area,” concludes Minister Mandić.

Tomorrow, May 9, delegations from the Assembly and Government of Sarajevo Canton will lay flowers at that location. A performance by the choir and orchestra of the Music High School is also planned, as well as a tour of the Memorial Park.
Between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM, flowers will be laid at the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo, and a suitable program will be held.
