Macron - Iran: Respecting the Nuclear Deal and Reducing Tensions in the Gulf

(Patria) – Representatives of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggested to the Iranian envoy that official Tehran must return to the framework of the nuclear deal and take the necessary steps to reduce tensions in the Gulf.

This was stated during a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, and the French President Emmanuel Macron, who is seeking to initiate negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Araghchi was the chief Iranian representative during the negotiations that led to the signing of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, China, and Russia.

Under the deal, Iran agreed to reduce and limit its nuclear program in exchange for the relaxation of economic sanctions by the West.

A statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the purpose of the meeting was to 'remind the envoy of the President of Iran that we expect Iran to quickly return to the obligations arising from the Vienna Agreement, as well as to take the necessary steps to reduce tensions'.
