Macron, Guterres, Ronaldo, Real Madrid and thousands of others call for the Amazon to be saved

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Amazon rainforest in Brazil has been burning for days, and according to Brazilian authorities, thousands of fires appear daily. 

The Amazon has been called the "lungs" of the Earth due to the amount of oxygen it produces, and it is estimated to produce 20% of the planet's oxygen annually. 

Because of this, more and more celebrities, politicians, and residents are speaking out on social media, calling for the Amazon to be saved. 

“I am deeply concerned by the fires in the Amazon forest. In the midst of a global climate crisis, we cannot afford greater damage to the main source of oxygen and biodiversity. The Amazon must be protected,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Twitter. 

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that this will be the topic of the upcoming G7 Summit. 

“Our house is burning. Literally. The Amazon rainforest - the lungs that produce 20% of our planet's oxygen - is burning. This is an international crisis. G7 summit members, we will discuss this in two days!”, Macron stated on Twitter.

“The Amazon rainforest produces more than 20 percent of the world's oxygen and has been burning for the past three weeks. It is our responsibility to help and save our planet,” stated one of the best footballers of our time and Juventus player Cristiano Ronaldo. 

Real Madrid also commented on this unfortunate event, calling for the Amazon to be saved. 

On Twitter, under the hashtag #SaveAmazon, an initiative has been launched where tens of thousands of people have already called for the Amazon to be saved.
