Lubitz's ex-girlfriend reveals why she left him

The ex-girlfriend of the Germanwings co-pilot, suspected of deliberately crashing the Airbus A320 in the French Alps, said in an interview published on Saturday that he told her one day "everyone would know about him", writes Hina, as reported by the Patria news agency.

In an interview with the German daily Bild, Maria W., a 26-year-old flight attendant, said that when she heard about the plane crash, she "remembered" a sentence uttered by Andreas Lubitz: "One day I will do something that will change the whole system and everyone will know my name and remember me."

"He did it because he realised that due to health problems, his dream of working for Lufthansa as a captain and pilot on long-haul flights was practically unattainable," she added.

Germanwings, the German company to which the Airbus belonged, is a low-cost subsidiary of Lufthansa.

The young woman explains that she separated from Andreas Lubitz "because it was becoming increasingly clear that he had a problem. During arguments, he would flare up and scream at me. He would wake up at night and shout: 'We're falling', obsessed with nightmares."

On Friday, the investigation revealed that the co-pilot had concealed that he was supposed to be on sick leave on the day of the crash.

Dusseldorf prosecutor Christoph Kumpa announced that sick leave notes were found torn up at Lubitz's home, but so far no suicide note has been found that would reveal a premeditated intention that cost the lives of 150 people.

These documents "support the thesis" that the young man "hid his illness from his employer and work environment," the prosecutor said.
