A local internet portal from Višegrad published information around noon on Friday, calling on citizens of Višegrad to protest the arrest of former members of the Army of Republika Srpska, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
On the orders of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Prosecutor's Office for War Crimes of Serbia, early Friday morning, 14 individuals were arrested in the areas of Višegrad and Prijedor in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as at several locations in Serbia. They are charged with war crimes committed during the last aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995.
These are former members of the Army of Republika Srpska, who are charged with the murders of non-Serb civilians during the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Just a few hours after the arrests, an unnamed organizer called on citizens to protest against the detention of the suspects.
- All citizens of Višegrad are called to turn out in as large numbers as possible to express their dissatisfaction with the arrest of Serbian fighters – reads, among other things, the call from the unnamed organizer.
Bakira Hasečić, president of the association "Woman – Victim of War", said that the call for demonstrations over the arrest of war criminals confirms that the policy and attitude towards victims in the city, where some of the most horrific crimes were committed during the last aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, have still not changed, reports NAP.
