(Patria) - Camp detainees from Sanski Most met with Chief State Prosecutor Milanko Kajganić and Head of the Special Department for War Crimes Ivan Matešić at the BiH Prosecutor's Office today.
They were told at the time that the indictment for war crimes in Sanski Most would be delivered to the BiH Court for confirmation after revision within three months, writes Detektor.
The President of the Association of Camp Detainees Sanski Most, Sadmir Alibegović, told reporters that prosecutors Eldina Biuk and Tarik Crnkić were also present at the meeting, but the acting prosecutor Izet Odobašić was not.
When asked why the indictment for war crimes in Sanski Most and Manjača was not sent for confirmation to the BiH Court, Alibegović said that the camp detainees were told "it did not have sufficient quality".
- In any case, we requested that this indictment must continue and be completed as soon as possible, that there should be no exceptions among the accused, that there should be no change in the qualification that was there, and that the acting prosecutor should not be excluded.
We received a firm promise that Izet will remain the lead prosecutor on the case, that one or two prosecutors will be assigned to him if he wishes to accept them as collaborators, and that the case will be delivered to the Court for confirmation as soon as possible, within a maximum of three months - Alibegović told reporters in front of the building of state judicial institutions.
Alibegović added that they did not go into the details of the indictment.
Detektor previously reported that the Association of Camp Detainees Sanski Most organized a protest rally due to the obstruction of the BiH Prosecutor's Office regarding the filing of an indictment for war crimes in this area, and they appealed to judicial institutions to do their job responsibly, in the name of justice, truth, and those who can no longer speak.
Earlier, prosecutor Odobašić sent information to the Permanent Commission for the Efficiency and Quality of Prosecutor's Offices within the HJPC BiH stating that Chief State Prosecutor Kajganić had forbidden the sending of an indictment for crimes in Sanski Most and Manjača, filed against his former teacher at the police academy and professor at the police academy, and other individuals, to the BiH Court for confirmation.
The information stated that Kajganić did everything to prevent the filing of an indictment against the suspect Mile Došenović. Odobašić also filed a complaint against Kajganić with the Office of the Disciplinary Prosecutor.
After that, Kajganić also filed a report with the Office of the Disciplinary Prosecutor against prosecutor Odobašić for the disciplinary offense of failing to follow the instructions of the superior prosecutor and violating the principles of the Code of Ethics for Prosecutors.
- The prosecutor only said that he briefly met Došenović, who was allegedly his teacher at the Police Academy in Banja Luka, and that he had not met anyone from the suspects in this procedure in the last ten years - said Alibegović.
The indictment for crimes against humanity in the area of Sanski Most and Manjača suspects six individuals, of whom four belong to the police management and investigation team of the Public Security Station (SJB) Sanski Most and the state security sector of the Security Services Center (CSB) Banja Luka.
The indictment states that, as part of a joint criminal enterprise, they carried out the illegal detention of thousands of civilians of non-Serb nationality and held them in camps without evidence, inflicting severe physical and mental pain through physical torture and other means, resulting in the death of at least 40 camp detainees and the forced relocation of over 1,600 to the military camp "Manjača" and subsequent forced deportation out of the country.
- We were in communication with the acting prosecutor Odobašić earlier. We will speak with him by phone as soon as possible.
Later, it was agreed that the Head of the War Crimes Department, the acting prosecutor Crnkić, would come to Sanski Most to provide answers to the camp detainees, victim representatives, regarding this and all other indictments, or all other crimes, about what will be done.
We have crimes for which no investigation has been initiated, we do not know if any indictment exists, or if anything is being done on that case at all - emphasizes Alibegović.
He states that they did not hold a meeting with representatives of the HJPC BiH because their invitation was not answered. He also adds that they did not insist on the request for Kajganić's dismissal, and that they are "leaving that job to the HJPC".
- The dismissal of any prosecutor does not bring us anything, because if someone is dismissed, we will enter a legal vacuum where the indictment will take another two or three years. We want indictments to be completed as soon as possible, and for more work to be done - concluded Alibegović.
