Doctors warn of the widespread presence of quacks in the region

Following the tragic death of a 9-year-old boy in Croatia, whose parents refused chemotherapy and entrusted their child's health to healers, doctors are warning once again that medical institutions are the only ones competent to treat the sick, reports the Patria News Agency.

Certain forms of natural medicine, such as consuming teas, bee products, and the like, are certainly desirable during treatment, experts warn, but doctors are the only ones who can determine how to approach an illness, and this should by no means involve various healers who have no medical education.

The well-known Osijek pediatrician, Dr. Igor Bereck, told Index that even the most famous names in so-called "new-age medicine" and "alternative" practices engage in dangerous lies and deception, all for the sake of quick and easy profit.

The increasing prevalence of quacks, as well as the increasingly frequent use of the Google search engine as a source for diagnosing illnesses, was also warned about by the president of the Medical Chamber of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, prim. dr. Harun Drljević.

Dr. Drljević: People must stop seeking diagnoses online

- People must stop googling illnesses online! Not only will this bring them no benefit, but it can seriously complicate their health problems – Dr. Drljević stated earlier in an interview with the Patria agency.
