
(Patria) - EU leaders have agreed on the selection of candidates for the top positions in the European Union institutions following the European elections, said President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen has been proposed as President of the European Commission, Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel as President of the European Council, Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell as EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, and International Monetary Fund /IMF/ Managing Director Christine Lagarde as President of the European Central Bank.
"The European Council has agreed on the future leaders of the EU institutions," Tusk wrote on Twitter.
European People's Party candidate Manfred Weber stated that he has withdrawn his candidacy for the new President of the European Commission.
