(Patria) - Vice President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Refik Lendo hosted an iftar tonight in Mostar, attended by representatives of religious, social and public life, war commanders of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and members of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of veterans' associations, former and current holders of public office, as well as representatives of academic and business life of Mostar and other Herzegovinian cities.
In his address to those present, Lendo emphasized the symbolism of Mostar as a city that has historically been a place of meeting and strength of unity.
- Mostar has been tested many times, but it has always remained upright thanks to its people, their faith, courage and mutual trust - he said.
Speaking about the significance of Ramadan, he pointed out that this month reminds us of the values of patience, solidarity and care for others.
- Fasting teaches us discipline, but also responsibility towards the community. A person's strength is not in how much they have, but in how much they are willing to share and understand others - Lendo said.
He emphasized that Ramadan for Bosniaks also carries a strong message of preserving identity and unity.
- Our strength has always been in unity. When we were together, we were strong, and by protecting each other we also protected our homeland - Lendo said, adding that today it is especially important to strengthen trust among people, build institutions and responsibly protect Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He also recalled the sacrifice of the defenders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that the freedom of the state remains a lasting vow to the martyrs and fighters who defended it.
Speaking about contemporary challenges, Lendo emphasized that the struggle for Bosnia and Herzegovina today is waged through strengthening institutions, education, economic development and responsible policy.
- Let us be united and responsible towards our faith, our people and our state. Bosnia and Herzegovina needs people who will love it, protect it and build it - not just with words, but with deeds - he said.
Reflecting on global events, he also expressed a prayer for peace in the world.
- In a time of great divisions and suffering of civilians in war conflicts around the world, I want to send a prayer from here in Mostar for all victims, and for peace and prosperity of our homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina - Lendo concluded.
