Lejla Njemčević nominated for the State Award for Sport of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2025

(Patria) - The Commission for the Award of the State Award for Sport of Bosnia and Herzegovina unanimously determined the proposal to award the State Award for Sport of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2025 to Lejla Njemčević, a top athlete and member of the Mountain Biking Club "Puls" from Vogošća, thereby recognizing her exceptional, long-term, and internationally affirmed contribution to the development of sport and the promotion of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

For years, Lejla Njemčević has stood out as one of the most significant names in Bosnian-Herzegovinian sport on the international stage. She won the title of the world's best female cyclist in the marathon discipline in 2022 and 2023, and in the same seasons, she also achieved overall victories in the World Cup.

She confirmed the continuity of top results in 2025 as well, finishing the season as the fourth-ranked female cyclist in the world, along with a second-place finish in the World Cup in Italy.

The Commission noted that, based on the scope, continuity, and international significance of the achieved results, Lejla Njemčević stood out among a total of seven candidates whose applications were received on time following the Public Call.

The State Award for Sport of Bosnia and Herzegovina represents the highest recognition that the state awards for exceptional achievements in the field of sport. The award is given to citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years of successful work in sport, exceptional scientific, professional, and pedagogical achievements, as well as for an exceptional contribution to the international promotion of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whether through individual achievements, the work of sports clubs, or representative selections.
