Lejla Njemčević wins second place at World Cup in France

(Patria) - The best BH cyclist and the first cyclist on the world marathon ranking list, Lejla Njemčević, won second place at the World Cup in France. The race held in Morzine was the toughest so far organized by the International Cycling Union, with a length of 101 kilometers and 4,400 meters of elevation gain. After a long battle with Lejla Njemčević lasting 6 hours and 10 minutes, victory went to Vera Looser with a lead of one minute and 40 seconds, while third place was taken by the Swiss national champion Irina Luetzelschwab.

After three World Cup races, our competitor Lejla Njemčević leads the overall standings, achieving outstanding results throughout the season. She won the first World Cup race in the Czech Republic, took second place in Italy, and after second place in France, she has a total of 650 points. Second in the overall standings with 410 points is Vera Looser, while Bettina Janas holds third place with 390 points.

"I am extremely happy to have kept the red leader's jersey of the World Series with another second place at the World Cup in France. Our main goal of the season is to win the World Series, and with one race to go, I have a big advantage. We knew that the course in Morzine was one of the toughest ever organized by the UCI, yet from the very start I felt very good, so I took the lead and dictated the pace. A large part of the race took place at over 2,000 meters of elevation, so on the last climb I lost a lot of energy, which made the final technical descent more difficult. An indicator of great form this season is that we managed to prepare for all World Cup races and reach the podium, especially since each was very different in configuration, from the first flat one to the last in France with almost 4,500 meters of climbing," said Lejla Njemčević.

The last World Cup race of this season will be held on September 27 in Snowshoe, United States of America, and the course where the battle for victory in the overall standings will take place has not yet been announced.
