(Patria) - Croatian MEP Željana Zovko will present "the tangible and intangible heritage of Croatia and BiH" tonight in the EU Parliament in Brussels. And the Old Bridge in Mostar in that context is shown as part of "Croatian heritage in BiH".
On that occasion, the president of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, Murat Tahirović, sent a letter to the Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Johann Sattler, and to MEPs Klemen Grošelj, Tineke Strik and Dietmar Koester.
Tahirović appealed to Sattler to, in cooperation with other EU parliamentarians and other representatives in the EU, strongly condemn and ignore the announced event and not allow EU institutions to be a place where world cultural heritage and the heritage of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) are denied and falsified, and where the common sense of every free person is insulted.
"The ICTY judgments have irrefutably established that the bridge was destroyed by members of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) as part of a joint criminal enterprise, headed by Franjo Tuđman, the President of the Republic of Croatia.
We provide you with a quote from the judgment against Jadranko Prlić and from the so-called presidential transcripts that originated in the office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Franjo Tuđman:
'The HVO authorities' attempt to minimize or conceal their responsibility for the destruction of the Old Bridge. At a meeting in the Presidential Palace in Zagreb on 10 November 1993, attended by Franjo Tuđman, Mate Boban, Jadranko Prlić, Mate Granić and Perica Jukić - the Chamber notes that the aforementioned five soon began discussing not the issue of determining responsibility for the destruction of the Old Bridge, but the reasons that could be cited to prevent the international public from believing that the HVO armed forces were responsible."
Mate Boban: 'It was, there were terrible rains - so much cracking before, that it fell on its own.'
Perica Jukić: 'My opinion is that we go for collapse, so we will say the destruction or collapse of the bridge, since the rain had weakened it.'
Jadranko Prlić: 'It is absolutely beyond our control, that is known. 300 meters in front of it is the line. So, there is no theory that someone came from our side to the bridge.'
President: 'Okay. Let's move on.'
Not only has the Republic of Croatia never condemned the destruction of the Old Bridge, but today it also denies the ICTY judgment against Jadranko Prlić, which established who destroyed the Old Bridge, and denies the ICTY judgments - that the Republic of Croatia participated in an international armed conflict in BiH and a JCE, which was finally established by the ICTY.
Lies, deceptions and forgeries could not pass before the ICTY. We want to believe that they will not pass before EU institutions either," Tahirović said in the letter.
