Lavić: Without NUB BiH, we will disappear

(Patria) - Attacks on Bosnia and Herzegovina come from all sides. Those on the political field are visible and easily recognizable, while those on some other fields are difficult to understand.

One of the attacks on our country is also an attack on the National and University Library (NUB) of BiH, which is facing increasing problems. Its employees have warned about the problems they are encountering, but the ruling structures have not listened.

Professor Senadin Lavić from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo spoke about this topic, as well as the authorities' attitude towards citizens and their path to the EU, on the show "7plus" on Hayat Television last night.

- All these state coalition sessions held these days are against the interests of Bosnia. I cannot believe in agreements between two or three people, especially in the politics of Čović and Dodik.

This is a low way of treating citizens, as if we do not understand big political tricks. They want to impose certain political models on us and remain in power for as long as possible. I do not see the government as capable of moving us forward. One should not be naive to believe that - said Lavić.

NUB BiH is closed, and according to Lavić, this is one of the ways to destroy BiH. He reminds that in the past 20 years, attempts have been made to attack all BiH institutions in order to develop entity-based ones.

- This is the most painful point of the contemporary cultural-political situation in BiH. Everything is being done to push BiH institutions into a corner over the past 20 years and to install entity substitutes. This NUB BiH is the foundation of culture and science in this region.

You cannot publish any book, you can only sing patriotic songs. If I were to conduct operations against BiH, I would destroy the University and NUB BiH. We are already seeing the outlines of that.

Professors and students today are not engaged with social reality. I think this government does not understand its importance, or there is some agenda we are not aware of. They will try to develop something else of a regional, i.e., entity character, but NUB BiH must survive. It is a recognizable symbol, and with this position, BiH loses part of its sovereignty - Lavić believes.

He emphasizes that with such behavior, we are putting ourselves in a difficult situation where we will have to seek knowledge elsewhere. Lavić also says that institutions like NUB BiH and the University preserve the identity of BiH citizens.

- The entire process is characterized by dilettantish behavior. I know people in power who say that some subjects and faculties that do not bring profit should be removed from education.

NUB BiH preserves the identity of the country and its people. Universities preserve the identity and consciousness of citizens. Through NUB BiH, I obtained books that we do not have here. We are putting ourselves in a difficult situation where we will have to seek knowledge elsewhere - points out Lavić.

Emphasizing the importance of NUB BiH, he also states that books would no longer be published in the Bosnian language, which would lead to its disappearance. He also reminds that in BiH, we are used to being culturally plundered, as Vuk Karadžić did, adding that he does not believe that we could publish in the Bosnian language in neighboring countries.

- Those would no longer be BiH works. I don't know if those works would be published in the Bosnian language. When the Bosnian language disappears, then the being also ceases to exist. If there is no being that does not speak a certain language, it is a barren field.

Austria-Hungary imposed Serbo-Croatian here with a decree. This has happened to us before. Vuk Karadžić stole the language but also changed the content of Hasanaginica.

We have become accustomed to being culturally plundered, they excavate stećci necropolises and take them to Zagreb, Belgrade, Munich. Without NUB BiH, we will melt away, we will disappear - added Professor Lavić.
