Lana Prlić: Our future must be based on reconciliation and building a common Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Following the upholding of Jadranko Prlić's conviction at the International Court in The Hague, the Vice President of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lana Prlić, spoke via her Facebook profile.

- As a social democrat, I deeply mourn every victim who suffered due to the actions of Herceg-Bosna. Through my political engagement over the years, I have shown how I see Bosnia and Herzegovina, its past, and for me even more importantly, its future.

A future in which we will first and foremost be citizens, neighbours, and above all, people. A future that will be based on reconciliation, respect, and the building of shared values and a common Bosnia and Herzegovina.

I respect and acknowledge the guilty verdict of the Court in The Hague.

In life, we have more than one family. They are divided into the family we choose and the one we are born into. The Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the family I chose back in 2010, as an activist with the desire to contribute to building a unified Mostar and a unified Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, I cannot and do not want to escape the family whose surname I have carried since 1993, when I was born. Everyone must take responsibility for their deeds and misdeeds.

I would ask all politicians, influential figures in Bosnian-Herzegovinian society, as well as our neighbouring Croatia, as a young person, as a social democrat, as a person who has decided to stay and fight in this suffering country, to spare us statements that are populist and serve only to collect cheap political points on this verdict.

I would ask you to respect the Court, and above all the victims and their families who have suffered and are suffering for many years. If I may be selfish, I would ask you, for my sake and for the sake of my generation, to be responsible and not to hinder us in creating a better future, because we cannot make the past better - Lana Prlić said.
