Sarajevo's Hotel "Evropa" is celebrating its 132nd birthday these days. The first modern hotel built in the city on the Miljacka River remains one of the most beautiful buildings in Sarajevo, and for decades it has been an iconic gathering place for Sarajevans and their guests, the highest officials from the country and the world, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The hotel was built in 1882, designed by architect Karlo Paržik. According to available sources, it was ceremonially opened on December 12, 1882.
During the last Serbian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the hotel was devastated. It was renovated in 2008, and the reconstruction project was carried out by Sarajevo architect Sead Gološ.
The color of the facade was chosen by the citizens of Sarajevo through a vote that was made possible at a counter in front of the hotel. The hotel reopened on its 126th birthday.
The hotel offers 160 luxuriously furnished rooms, 14 suites, of which 2 are presidential, 5 fully equipped conference halls, top-notch spa and wellness center facilities with a fitness center, swimming pool, Turkish bath, solariums, saunas, and massage rooms, writes NAP.
