Kulić: Plane crash shows even advanced technology can fail

Bosnia and Herzegovina aviation expert Omer Kulić told the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) that the disappearance of the Boeing 777-200 passenger plane of Malaysia Airlines is one of the biggest tragedies in air traffic in recent years.

Despite the fact that it is still unknown what happened to the plane carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members on a flight between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, Kulić points out that it is already clear that this is a great tragedy. The plane disappeared from radar over Vietnam almost two days ago, and Kulić emphasizes that although it is one of the most modern planes with advanced technology, this does not surprise him.

 - Technology, no matter how modern, can fail. You have cases in practice where a pilot sees some changes in front of him with the naked eye, and then pilots the plane based on their own decisions, not what the radar shows them - Kulić told NAP.

Commenting on the case of the Malaysian plane, Kulić said that the plane has certainly crashed, it is only a matter of time when it will be found.

- There are three possible scenarios for what happened to this plane; that it had a malfunction in some vital parts, that it entered bad weather it could not detect earlier, or that a terrorist act occurred. A fourth option does not exist. No plane can fly continuously for 36 hours in this manner. And if it had landed at another airport somewhere, that would have been known by now - Kulić said.

The Boeing 777-200, which took off from Kuala Lumpur Airport on Friday morning, disappeared with its passengers and crew, and air traffic controllers at no airport received even the slightest signal that could indicate a problem with this aircraft. The governments of Malaysia, Vietnam, the USA, and China are doing everything to locate this plane, but so far, still without success. Malaysia Airlines representative Ignatius Ong Ming Choy told the passengers' families to "prepare for the worst".
