The Little House on the Drina - Neither Here Nor There

(Patria) - The little house on the Drina River is a symbol of Bajina Bašta and one of the recognizable motifs of the river, also known as Zelenika due to its characteristic color.

The fairytale-like scene that the house creates, "neither here nor there," situated on a rock surrounded by emerald water, is a favorite of photographers worldwide.

Sometimes, a fishing boat or a hook patiently waiting for lunch can be seen, writes Punkufer.hr.

The first log cabin on the islet in the Drina River was built in the late sixties of the last century, and it was created as a resting place from jumping into the river.

Since the wild currents show no mercy, the house has been renovated and rebuilt several times.

According to legend, Marko Kraljević, on his way to Bosnia with his horse Šarac, wanted to cross the river but did not want his horse to get wet.

Therefore, he threw a huge rock into the sea, and the horse, with Kraljević on its back, reached Bosnia in a few leaps. Some are still convinced today that the hoof prints can be seen on the rock.

National Geographic magazine once dedicated an issue to it when a photograph of the house won the month's award. Thus, it attracted great global attention.

The British Daily Mail also wrote about it, stating that it has been resisting wild nature for years and is also on numerous world lists of the strangest houses in the world.
