Krnjić: We are dismantling the Indirect Taxation Authority through illegal work, and we are clinging to a temporary border crossing whose non-opening does not worsen anything

(Patria) - Last week, the new border crossing on the highway near Bosanska Gradiška between BiH and Croatia was supposed to be officially opened.

The crossing was not opened, and the public is divided on the reasons for the misunderstanding that is keeping it closed.

Zijad Krnjić, a member of the Management Board (MB) of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) of BiH from the expert group, appointed by the FBiH Government, said as a guest on the BHT1 Uživo show on BHRT that the opening of the crossing is less important than many unresolved issues, and that the BiH economy is not suffering due to its non-opening.

- The new Gradiška border crossing was supposed to be temporary. Goods subject to any kind of inspection or laboratory research cannot pass through it; they will continue to go through the old one...

Passengers and goods that are not subject to excise duties can pass through it, and it would only help with passenger traffic - says Krnjić.

According to him, a temporary border crossing does not have the same capabilities as a main crossing.

- These crossings are being manipulated. The new crossing would help, but compared to the situation before its opening, the BiH economy will not incur any additional costs - zero - Krnjić emphasized.

He adds that its opening would reduce traffic jams, and that it will be opened, but after "more important things" are resolved.

He also touched upon the malversations within the ITA, stating that it has not been operating in accordance with the law since the arrival of the new chairman in 2023.
